Rain Rain Rain

I apologize for my lengthy delay in an update! Unfortunately, the weather did not improve for us to go away the weekend after all the nuttiness settled down. So, my friends and I have been spending the majority of our time wondering around Suva. The weather has finally improved this week, meaning we actually get to see the sun now...not for very long still, but it is so much better than it was. Feels like I brought the rain with me from Vancouver!

My friends and I have been trying to keep ourselves entertained so we don't go crazy for the lack of sun. We've gone for lots of lunches and dinners; we've gone to a few movies; we've gone on lot's and lot's of coffee dates; and we've spent lot's of time at the Holiday Inn Hotel, hanging by their pool. We spent the whole day there the other day to watch the Superbowl; only one other girl was from North America (and she isn't even into football), so it was brand new to everyone else. I'm not a huge fan of football, but it was something to do!

My parents arrive on Saturday and I am really looking forward to seeing them! It will be nice to relax on a cruise and have an actual vacation. After that I might meet some of my friends in Nadi and we may go to Bounty Island for one night, since we haven't gone anywhere since Pacific Harbour.

I really enjoying myself at the Nausori Special School, but gosh it's challenging! It is obvious that many of the children's parents don't work with them at home; the parents rely on the school to do all the work. I am so thankful to have had supportive parents who worked tiredlessly to get me through school; who instilled in me a love of reading before I could even read on my own; who hired tutors for me; and who survived my temper tantrums when I couldn't get something. Everyday it feels like we tell the children the same spelling rules...and it never sinks in. It's quite sad actually; I wish there was more that I could do. Some of the children can't even remember the alphabet, or how to count to 10. It's hard to watch how hard some of the teachers are on the children too; I won't go into details, but I will say some of the stuff they do and say would get them fired and slapped with a lawsuit back home!

Well, I hope I will have more exciting things to write about the week after next. See you all then!
